The Las Vegas Raiders have informed running back Josh Jacobs that they are placing him on the franchise tag for next season. Jacobs is coming off a career Pro Bowl season for the Raiders and with the team already making a change at quarterback, they could not afford to lose him. The two sides will now have until July to work out a long-term deal ahead of the upcoming NFL season. If they do not work out a deal he will play next season for $10.1 million under the franchise tag.

With Derek Carr now with the New Orleans Saints, it is unclear who will be the quarterback teamed up with Josh Jacobs next season in Las Vegas. The team clearly wants to add a veteran, but may need to trade up to take a rookie quarterback instead. If the team goes with a rookie, it could be likely that Jacobs gets an even heavier workload next season. There is still a lot of time left in the NFL offseason.
This past season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh Jacobs carried the ball 340 times for 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also caught 53 passes for 400 yards and zero receiving touchdowns. Jacobs has long been one of the best players on the team, but took a serious step up this past season. The team will work to make sure he is under contract for the long-term.
