Former Pittsburgh Panthers junior big man John Hugley has announced that he has transferred to the Oklahoma Sooners. The big man stepped away from the program this past season to focus on his mental health and eventually decided to enter the transfer portal. Several high major programs showed interest in the big man with the Sooners ultimately winning the contest for his talents during the 2023-24 college basketball season. The Sooners need to quickly find a way to right the program or changes will likely be made with the coaching staff in the near future.

Last season in limited action with the Pittsburgh Panthers, John Hugley averaged 14.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 47.1 percent and a three-point percentage of 16.7 percent. This is a great addition to a Sooners program that needed some experienced firepower on the roster heading into next season. Hugley will now get to refocus on basketball and play for a program that he could potentially be the star of next season. This seems like an ideal match for both the big man and the Sooners program heading into the Fall.
