Pittsburgh Panthers big man John Hugley has announced that he has entered the transfer portal and will play elsewhere next season. He played in just eight games this season before deciding to sit out the remainder of the season to focus on his mental health. The former four-star recruit will get plenty of interest in the transfer portal after leading the team in both points and rebounds last season. Instead of transferring last season he stayed with the program and continued to help the program recruit more talent for this year.

Last season with the Pittsburgh Panthers, John Hugley averaged 14.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 47.1 percent and a three-point percentage of 16.7 percent. With him ready to return to college basketball, several teams will likely be interested in him for next season. A fresh start seems to be the best for him for the upcoming college basketball season. While things did not work out for him and the program this season, he did help keep the program afloat last season. His time in the portal will help him evaluate where he wants to play in the 2023-24 college basketball season.
