On Wednesday, July 17, BET will air its first on-camera interview with President Joe Biden. In a half-hour special, the President will sit with journalist Ed Gordon to discuss “the growing concern over President Biden’s fitness for office, the state of the economy for Black families, the Project 2025 conservative policy agenda, and the fight to engage Black voters.”
“The conversation will focus on critical issues impacting our community and discuss why Black Americans should continue to support his candidacy amidst growing public concerns and calls for him to withdraw,” a press release from BET Media Group reads.
“Black voters played a pivotal role in delivering the Democratic nomination and the presidency for President Joe Biden in 2020. As we approach the 2024 election, the stakes have never been higher for the President and Black America. At this crucial moment, it is imperative for President Biden to directly address the concerns of Black voters and articulate his vision for the future.”
BET is the latest news outlet to sit down with the President in July, following NBC News and Complex Networks. In the meantime, American voters can watch the President deliver remarks at the 2024 NAACP National Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following the release of his housing plan, the President is expected to elaborate on his desire to curb rent increases nationwide.
“I’m sending a clear message to corporate landlords: If you raise rents more than 5%, you should lose valuable tax breaks. Families deserve housing that’s affordable – it’s part of the American dream,” he wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The President will address the 2024 NAACP National Convention on Tuesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. PDT. One day later, “Black America Votes: The Biden Interview” will air at 10 p.m. EST.
