Middleweight contender Jaime Mungia has reportedly identified his next opponent. He is expected to share the ring with former super welterweight contender Jimmy Kelly in Anaheim, California on June 11, 2022. Led by Golden Boy Promotions, the event will be held at the Honda Center and broadcasted by DAZN.
Mungia enters the upcoming bout as the heavy favorite. At 25 years old, he has amassed a record of 39-0 with 31 knockouts. His last three fights have included victories against Gabriel Rosado, D’Mitrius Ballard and Kamil Szeremeta. However, he hasn’t challenged for a title in the middleweight division just yet.
Mungia’s opponent, Jimmy Kelly, has put together a record of 26-2 with 10 knockouts. Most recently, he earned a majority decision against Kanat Islam in Plant City, Florida to continue his three-fight win streak. He last defeat came in 2018 when he challenged Dennis Hogan for the WBO Super Welterweight Title. Ironically, Hogan would go on to lose the WBO Super Welterweight Championship to Mungia just a few months later.
Details regarding the Mungia-Kelly undercard will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
