There is promising news regarding the latest season of Amazon Prime Video’s animated superhero drama, Invincible. During a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb, actor Khary Payton, best known for his role as Black Samson, explained that heavy workloads at various animation studios have caused the show to take a lengthy layoff. However, he did reveal that season two of the series was “finished” and the crew had already begun working on season three.
“We finished Season 2, we’re on to Season 3. But, it’s so hard to say right now,” Payton explained.
“There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done, and literally, it was like projects sitting there with a backpack full of, you know, material being like, ‘Any time you’re ready.'”
While Payton’s comments are promising, it is important to meet his statements with cautious optimism. Voice work for animated series can be completed long before animation work is wrapped up. Still, his comments are a step in the right direction who have waited nearly 18 months for a new season of Invincible.
Starring Steven Yeun, JK Simmons and Sandra Oh, Invincible debuted on Amazon Prime Video in March 2021. Largely based on comics created by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, the series follows Yeun’s character, Mark Grayson, struggling to follow in the footsteps of his superhero father, Omni-Man. Along the way, he discovers that superhero life is full of treacherous threats, shocking secrets and tough decisions that will determine the future of those around him. While fans wait for season two to arrive, new viewers can catch the trailer below.
