Michigan Wolverines big man Hunter Dickinson has announced that he is entering the transfer portal, in a shocking move. This will send shock waves throughout the college basketball world with Dickinson now considered the top transfer in the portal. Instead of heading pro, he will instead be playing for a new program next season. There were rumors during the 2023 NIT that Michigan and the big man were ready to part ways this season. After three fantastic seasons with the Wolverines, Dickinson will begin his search for a new program. Nearly every program in college basketball will likely reach out to the transfer big man.

This past season as a junior for the Michigan Wolverines, Hunter Dickinson averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 56 percent and a three-point percentage of 42.1 percent. While the fit and NIL package will need to be good, the program that adds Dickinson will see a huge boost in their winning chances for next season. While his career a Michigan may not have ended the way he wanted, he was still a dominant player for the program in three years.
Next season, depending on the program fit, Hunter Dickinson could be a preseason favorite for several conference and NCAA awards. Michigan will likely need to evaluate their plans for next season and decide where they want to be this time next year. Missing the 2023 NCAA Tournament is not ideal for the program and it can not happen during the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
