WBA “Regular” Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis is on the verge of participating in a blockbuster bout with Ryan Garcia in April. Before he can make it to the aforementioned bout, he must get by WBA Super Featherweight Champion Héctor Luis García on January 7, 2023 in Washington, D.C. Like Davis, García is confident that he will come out on top against Davis and set up a major bout with Ryan Garcia later this year.
“Ryan Garcia is next. Once I take care of Tank, I will get revenge for my countryman Javier Fortuna. He was already done when Ryan beat him. I am going to make him pay for elderly abuse,” García told Boxing Scene.
“I will give him a lesson on Dominican boxing. Ryan does more talking than boxing. If he spent half as much time in the gym as he does talking, he would be Floyd Mayweather, Muhammad Ali and Roberto Duran wrapped into one.”
While he has his sights set on a bout with the California native, he must first get by Gervonta “Tank” Davis on January 7, 2023. Draftkings Sportsbook currently lists the Dominican fighter as a +800 underdog, but that has not shaken his confidence.
“People have written me off before. This isn’t anything new,” he told Boxing Scene.
“Davis is very talented. He is a very good fighter but skill for skill I am as good or better than him in every category.”
