Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel has announced that he will return to the program for the 2023 college football season. After a disappointing season as a program, Oklahoma will look to bounce back next season. This upcoming season will be the program’s final one in the Big 12 before they, along with the Texas Longhorns, make the move to the SEC. Gabriel was the team’s starting this past season and his return is a huge positive for the program next season. There was some speculation about what he’d do next season, but now his return is official.

This past season with the Oklahoma Sooners, Dillon Gabriel completed 230 passes for 3,168 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 367 attempts. He also carried the ball 89 times for 315 yards and six touchdowns last year with Oklahoma. The Hawaii native played three years for the UCF Knights before joining the Oklahoma program this past season. Gabriel posted his return on Twitter including the quote: “This island boy found a home in Oklahoma”.
This season Oklahoma finished with a losing record of 6-7 which is their first time finishing below .500 since the 1998 season. The team finished the season with a 35-32 loss to the Florida State Seminoles in the 2022-23 Cheez-it Bowl. Dillon Gabriel and the Sooners will look to improve that mark next season.
