Gervonta “Tank” Davis has reportedly entered a not-guilty plea after being arrested and charged with one count of battery causing bodily harm.
“Subject to receiving a copy of the charges herein, and further subject to filing defensive motions… the Defendant waives reading of the charging document and respectfully enters a plea of not guilty to those charges,” Davis’ legal representative, Susan Bozorgi, said.
“The Defendant respectfully requests trial by jury herein.”
The charges levied against Davis stem from an incident that occurred on December 27, 2022 in Parkland, Florida. The undefeated boxer was accused of striking the mother of his daughter across the face. Shortly thereafter, authorities were called to the scene and the Baltimore native was arrested and held in a Broward County jail until the following morning. One day later, he posted a $1,000 bail and released a statement via Instagram.
“Do not let these people misguide you all on this b*llsh*t. This was just yesterday, moments before me and my child’s mother had [an] argument. [I was] watching Frozen with my oldest daughter. I never put my hands on my child’s mother or my f*cking daughter. Are you f*cking crazy? I’m not a monster. I [have] been quiet for too long. I don’t have [a] media team, [publicist], good lawyer [or] spokesperson. [I don’t have any of] that,” he wrote before deleting the post moments later.
On December 30, 2022, Vanessa Posso, the mother of the boxer’s daughter, issued a statement via Instagram. According to Posso’s social media post, Davis did not hit her and her call to authorities was “unnecessary.”
“These past few days have been hurtful and extremely exhausting for all parties involved,” Posso stated.
“I pride myself on being extremely private. This situation was the last thing I wanted to be made public. The state of our relationship has been in a fragile space and Gervonta and I were both at fault for the argument.”
Not long after Posso issued a statement, it was confirmed that Davis was still scheduled to fight Héctor Luis Garcia. The bout is scheduled to take place on January 7, 2023 in Washington, D.C.
