Eleven days before Christmas, boxing fans expected to see Gervonta “Tank” Davis return to the ring and fight super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. in Houston, Texas. However, plans have changed. Now, the Baltimore native is expected to get in the ring with the Washington, D.C. native on March 1, 2025. With the new date, the fight will likely be moved from the Toyota Center as the Houston Rockets have a home game scheduled for that evening.
Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ career has been hindered by legal setbacks and periods of inactivity in recent years. Since he fought three times in 2019, the lightweight champion has fought seven times in the last five years. Still, he enters the fight with a record of 30-0 with 28 knockouts.
His opponent, Lamont Roach Jr., has not fought as a lightweight before, but he has made a name for himself as a super featherweight. In November 2023, he beat Héctor Luis García by split decision to win the WBA Super Featherweight Championship. Months later, he returned home to Washington, D.C. for a successful title defense against Feargal McCrory. However, like Davis, Roach Jr. has been fairly in active in recent years, fighting six times in the last five years.
The bout is expected to air on Prime Video via pay-per-view. More details regarding the venue and undercard will be unveiled when the fight is formally announced.
