UPDATE (Friday November 15 at 4:30 p.m. EST): Since this article was published, Premier Boxing Champions has shared a graphic via Instagram confirming Benavidez will fight Morrell in Las Vegas on February. The main card is expected to include Brandon Figueroa, Stephen Fulton Isaac Cruz, Angel Fierro, Jesus Ramos and Jeison Rosario.
Light heavyweight contender David Benavidez is reportedly set for a showdown with fellow light heavyweight contender David Morrell on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Benavidez was initially set to fight in December in Houston, Texas in double feature alongside Gervonta “Tank” Davis, but the event was later split into two events and pushed into 2025.
Benavidez enters the reportedly scheduled bout with a record of 29-0 with 24 knockouts. The former super middleweight champion has been fairly inactive in 2024, only fighting once against former light heavyweight champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk. However, he has picked up a few of his most significant victories within the last year, including wins against former champions like Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade in 2023.
Morrell has also suffered from inactivity within the last year, stepping into the ring once in 2024. Still, he heads into the winter clash with an unblemished record of 11-0 with nine knockouts. Most recently, he made his light heavyweight debut on August 3 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California against Radivoje Kalajdzic. He earned a unanimous decision victory, winning at least nine of the 12 rounds on every judge’s scorecard.
The fight is expected to air live on Prime Video. More details regarding the undercard will be unveiled once the fight is formally announced.
