The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly released cornerback Darius Slay after three seasons. Adam Schefter of ESPN shared the news via Twitter on Wednesday.
“Eagles plan to release CB Darius Slay, per sources,” he tweeted.
“Eagles and Darius Slay could not work out a restructured contract and he will be a free agent today at 4 pm, per sources.”
Slay was due to make $17 million in the final year of his current deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, creating a cap hit of approximately $26 million. Per Schefter, the two parties attempted to restructure the deal, but no agreement could be reached.
Slay joined the Eagles after spending seven years with the Detroit Lions. In three seasons with the Eagles, the Mississippi State product was responsible for seven interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 166 tackles. He earned two Pro Bowl appearances and helped lead the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl LVII.
“Nothing but love Philly! Let’s see where we [are] heading next,” Slay tweeted.
Pro Football Network has identified Cincinnati, Detroit and Las Vegas as potential landing spots for the five-time Pro Bowl cornerback.
