Miles away from The Pentagon, a tank will capture the attention of the nation’s capital this winter. On January 7, 2022, Gervonta “Tank” Davis will fight Hector Garcia for the WBA “Regular” Lightweight Championship at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Davis enters the lightweight title bout as an undefeated, five-time world champion. The Baltimore, Maryland native last defended his piece of the WBA Lightweight Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on May 28, 2022. He stopped previously undefeated challenger Rolando “Rolly” Romero in the sixth round and improved his professional record to 27-0 with 25 knockouts. Moving forward, he is planning to defend his title against Garcia in what is colloquially referred to as a “tune-up” fight. If he emerges with a win, he is expected to fight fellow undefeated lightweight Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas, Nevada later this year.
Standing in the way of Davis’ next fight in Las Vegas is undefeated world champion Hector Garcia. In February, Garcia defeated previously undefeated super featherweight contender Chris Colbert. Six months later, he defeated Roger Gutiérrez and earned the WBA Super Featherweight Championship.
Gervonta “Tank” Davis will return to the nation’s capital for the first time in nearly seven years. Meanwhile, his opponent, Hector Garcia, will make his debut in the nation’s capital.
