Students and staff at public schools in Washington, D.C. must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test if they hope to return to the classroom after Thanksgiving.
“To support a safe return from Thanksgiving break, all students and staff will be expected to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test on Sunday, November 27,” a tweet from Washington, D.C. Public Schools reads.
Students and staff members must take a COVID-19 test on November 27 and upload results to the D.C. Public Schools online portal on the same day. To meet the needs of students and staff, schools distributed testing kits prior to Thanksgiving. Additionally, students and staff members are available at COVID-19 centers across the city.
In the event that a student or staff member does test positive for the coronavirus, they will not be able to return to class or work. Instead, students and staff members must remain isolated for at least five days unless symptoms persist.
Washington, D.C. Public Schools will implement a similar testing strategy following the December holiday break.
