Super middleweight contenders David Benavidez and Caleb Plant are set to fight on March 25, 2023 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Presented by Premier Boxing Champions, the bout will be available for fans around the country through Showtime Pay-Per-View. For fans in and around the greater Las Vegas area, tickets will be available beginning January 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. PT.
David Benavidez enters the bout with a perfect record of 26-0 with 23 knockouts. Despite having a perfect record, he has lost his super middleweight title twice after testing positive for cocaine and failing to make weight. However, he has been able to bounce back with six consecutive stoppage victories since late 2019. Now, he is hoping that a win against Caleb Plant will position him for a shot at his old championship belt.
Caleb Plant has other ideas. After suffering the first loss of his career in late 2021, he was able to bounce back with a decisive knockout win against Anthony Dirrell in October. Similarly, he is hoping that a win against Benavidez will put him in a position to regain his IBF Super Middleweight Championship belt.
“This is one of the biggest and potentially most explosive fights that can be made in boxing, not just in the super middleweight division,” Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza said.
“It pits two fighters at the peak of their athletic primes, both with prodigious skill-sets and contrasting styles, both of whom take great pride in the way they perform. It is an intriguing matchup and the outcome is impossible to predict. Add in their genuine and mutual dislike for one another and we have a volatile, 50-50 matchup and potential fight-of-the-year candidate.”
