Former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Danny Serafini and 33-year-old Samantha Scott have been arrested in connection to the murder of Robert Gary Spohr and the attempted murder of Wendy Wood. Serfaini is reportedly being held at Humboldt County Detention Center and being charged as a fugitive from justice. Scott is being held at the Clark County Detention Center and charged as a fugitive from another state. It is unclear how Scott and Serafini are connected, but police say they are “known to each other.”
Serafini’s mother and father-in-law, Spohr and Wood, were the subject of a violent incident in 2021. When authorities arrived to a residence in North Lake Tahoe on June 5, 2021, Spohr had been killed by a gunshot while his wife, Wood, had sustained a gunshot wound, but survived. Shortly thereafter, Wood was taken to a nearby hospital, but died one year later. Investigators didn’t immediately identify a suspect, but surveillance footage reportedly showed a man with a white face covering and dark sweatshirt walking to the residence hours before the attack occurred.
“Today, justice was served,” Placer County Sheriff Wayne Woo said, according to NBC News.
“The apprehension of those responsible for the tragic events that unfolded in Homewood, North Lake Tahoe in 2021 stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of our detectives, law enforcement partners, and the persistence of our pursuit of truth.”
