The Missouri Tigers have fired Head Coach Cuonzo Martin after five seasons with the men’s basketball program. This stretch with the Missouri Tigers was his longest stint with one program, but success and winning were limited during his time as the Head Coach of the SEC program. Outside of a top-four SEC finish in his first year with the program, they did not finish better than seventh in the SEC during his tenure. The search for a new Head Coach will begin as the 2022 NCAA coaching carousel begins.
Cuonzo Martin is out at Missouri, sources confirmed to ESPN. Had been trending this way for a few weeks. First by @JonRothstein. Would expect the school to hire Eddie Fogler’s firm to handle the search.

While with the Missouri Tigers, Cuonzo Martin led the team to an overall record of 78-77 and an SEC record of 35-53. The Tigers did make the NCAA Tournament two of the five seasons but were eliminated in the Round of 64 both times. Overall Martin performed better as the Head Coach of the Missouri State Bears, Tennessee Volunteers, and California Golden Bears in his career.
Been fortunate to be in this business for 22 years.
Not sure I’ve ever covered a better human being than Cuonzo Martin.
The sport of college basketball is much better with him than without him. Hopefully he finds a good landing spot.

This season the Missouri Tigers finished third from the bottom in the SEC regular-season standings. While they did win their 2022 SEC Tournament first-round matchup against the Ole Miss Rebels, they lost in the second round to the LSU Tigers. The 12-20 overall record paired with an SEC record of 5-13 was the final straw for Missouri.
