Claressa Shields has reportedly scheduled her second MMA fight. According to multiple reports, she will share the octagon with 21-year-old Abigail Montes of Mexico on October 27 in Hollywood, Florida.
Shields last fought in June against Brittney Elkin. While Shields did emerge with her first win in the PFL, she did struggle on the ground during the first two rounds. Following her pro debut, Shields went back to work at the Wink Gym in New Mexico.
“I’m always in training. I’m always working,” Shields told ESPN.
“It’s really just focusing on learning everything and becoming an MMA fighter. So back to the jiu-jitsu, back to the wrestling, back to the ground-and-pound — there’s so much work I have to put in.”
Her opponent, Montes, comes into the octagon with very little experience as well. In two pro MMA fights, Montes has earned one win by decision and one win by second-round stoppage.
Shields-Montes will be featured on a PFL playoff card, but it will not be included as a playoff matchup. Shields has indicated that she plans to participate in a full PFL season next year.
