Just two weeks ago, Claressa Shields made an emphatic entrance in the world of mixed martial arts. After surviving two tough rounds with Brittney Elkin, Shields earned a stoppage. While she definitely had a few holes in her game, the Michigan native showed that she had a bright future in the sport and room to grow.
Shields hopes to continue her run in the world of mixed martial arts by signing up for another match in the Professional Fighters League. MMA insider Ariel Helwani has revealed that the two-time Olympic gold medalist plans to enter the octagon for a second time on August 27 in Miami, Florida. Her opponent has not yet been determined.
If Shields sticks with the August 27 date, it will set up for an incredible weekend of combat sports in Miami. First, the Professional Fighter League will host playoff matches at the Hard Rock Hotel on August 27. Then, Tyrone Woodley and Jake Paul are set to test their boxing skills at an unannounced location on August 28.
Claressa Shields’ second pro MMA fight for PFL is set for Aug. 27, per promotion officials. Opponent TBD. Shields will not box between now and then.
Coincidentally, if Kayla Harrison wins on Friday and advances to the playoffs, her next fight is also scheduled for that card.
