More than 5,000 miles away from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Chance The Rapper has found a new home in Accra, Ghana. Fresh off of his performance at the 2022 BET Awards, the Grammy Award winner has made his way overseas. First, he stopped in France for “The Highs & The Lows” video with Joey Bada$$. Now, he’s in western Africa for his upbeat, fast-paced track, “Yah Know.”
“Gun to ya back like Harriet/If you can’t shoot, can’t carry it/If ya too fake, can’t ferry it/Com? carry me home, sweet chariot,” he raps as he moves throughout the city of Accra.
“Er’body wanna come driv? the boat/But nobody wanna come paddleboat/If we realized we was all compatible/We could combine the money/Maybe come buy the boat.”
The release of “Yah Know” sets the stage for Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa’s upcoming Black Star Line Festival. Set for January 6 in Accra, the festival will feature Erykah Badu, T-Pain, Jeremih, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa and Tobe Nwigwe.
“Since 1957, Ghana has been a support system and stronghold for Black liberation globally,” Chance The Rapper stated.
“This year, Accra became a second home to me, and my Ghanaian friends have become my family. We’re incredibly humbled and honored to build something from the ground up that creates community and memories for Black people of the diaspora [and] continent for years to come.”
