“Don’t make me wait too long,” BLXST sings as Buddy’s “Wait Too Long” begins.
Unfortunately, Buddy has had his fans waiting for some time now…four years to be exact. The RCA Records artist last released an album, Harlan & Alondra, in 2018. Complete with features from Ty Dolla $ign, Khalid and Snoop Dogg, the project delivered hits like “Black” with A$AP Ferg and “Shameless” with Guapdad 4000. While the music he delivered way back when has maintained its quality over the last four years, impatient listeners have been left asking the following question: When is the next LP dropping? This week, those questions were answers.
Earlier this week, California native Buddy returned in a major way. Not only did he announce that his sophomore LP, Superghetto, would be dropping next month, but he also delivered a new single called “Wait Too Long” featuring BLXST. Supported by the plush production of Hollywood Cole, “Wait Too Long” is a smooth, head-nodding track that serves as the perfect re-introduction for the rising West Coast artist.
“Wait Too Long” is the first offering from Superghetto, which will arrive on March 25. According to Buddy, the album is a depiction of where he’s from and less about where he’s been. As he puts it, the album is about “the essence [of] growing up in the hood.”
“I’m from there, so its in me not on me and I take it everywhere I go. Everyone else just has to conform to the energy I’m bringing to the table. That’s what the album sounds like. My experience, from my perspective… the beat selection…its a bunch of different flows and cadences,” he told Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
