As the attention around the future of Anthony Davis continues to swell with the NBA playoffs and ultimtely the offseason now only a couple months away, the Pelicans star has no regrets with how his saga has unfolded this season.
Davis made a recent appearance on LeBron James’ HBO show ‘The Shop’ and discussed the altered perception many fans now have of him. Davis isn’t fazed by the criticism, however, and remains adamant that his future lies in no one’s control but his own.
“I’ll say what I wanna say and do what I wanna do…. I got the power.”

This type of confidence and determination is what Anthony Davis has portrayed all season long, especially when he requested a trade from the Pelicans after spending the first six years of his career with the club. The trade deadline came and went however and Davis will remain a Pelican down the home stretch of the regular season.
There’s a couple of layers to unravel here regarding Davis’ latest comments on ‘The Shop.’ Of course, the fact that the show is hosted by LeBron James and close friend and Klutch Sports affiliate Maverick Carter is certainly noteworthy. James and the Lakers have openly been the primary suitors for Davis’ services, who also signed to the Klutch agency recently.
Second, this type of forwardness and candor is exactly why Davis’ reputation has now begun to be viewed differently. Davis was always viewed as a more laid-back type of personality who didn’t grab many headlines or make attention-worthy comments to the media. That’s changed this year though and it was on full display during his appearance on the show.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, however, as the NBA has been labeled as a players’ league in the past and rightfully so. Players have the ability to demand trades and control their future, though commissioner Adam Silver does oppose these demands going public such as Davis’ has.
With Davis still determined to write his own destiny, it’ll be intriguing to see where he goes from here especially considering he’s still under contract for at least one more season before he can exercise his player option.
