It has been reported that the Los Angeles Angels are going to talk with Mike Trout on a contract extension that would make Trout an “Angel for life.” The Angels are likely to reach out to Trout this winter to begin talks of a “lifetime” contract extension.

Trout is having an incredible 2018 campaign for the Angels even though the Angels are struggling. His 2018 numbers are a .318 average, 33 homeruns, 68 RBI’s, and an on-base percentage of .466 for the Angels. Trout was also named to the American League all-star team in July, having a solid first half, putting up incredible numbers for the Angels.
Only 27, Trout is under Angels control until 2020, he has two years and $66.5 million left on his $144.5 million extension that he signed in 2014. Since Trout is now considered to be one of the best players to play the game of baseball, it would be smart for the Angels to get ahead and lock him down now. Having Trout around for an extensive period of time with this idea of a “lifetime” contract will only help the Angels build a winning ballclub.
The Angels have not had the year that they expected, Shohei Ohtani has battled arm injuries despite his hitting success. Also, they dealt Ian Kinsler to the Boston Red Sox at the deadline and following that came news that manger Mike Scioscia is likely to be retiring aftrer this year.
