For the second consecutive week, the New Orleans Saints will take the field without their starting quarterback, Jameis Winston. In his absence, Andy Dalton will assume the position of starting quarterback. New Orleans Saints Head Coach Dennis Allen shared the news with reporters earlier today.
Winston was unable to play in last week’s matchup with the Minnesota Vikings after sitting out the team’s three previous practices with a back injury. This week, Winston has also missed three team practices with a lingering back injury. On a brighter note, Allen says that the Heisman Trophy winner is rehabbing and making improvements.
“I think he’s getting better, but I think the most important thing is to get him healthy so we’re not riding that roller coaster each and every week,” Allen said, per ESPN.
Winston is not the only skill player who will be missing from the lineup on Sunday in New Orleans. Allen has also revealed that Michael Thomas will also be unavailable this week. On a brighter note, Allen did indicate that running back Alvin Kamara will return this week despite a rib injury. Also, Jarvis Landry is listed as questionable despite missing practice on Friday.
“Jarvis is listed as questionable but I actually feel pretty good about that,” Allen said on Friday, per ESPN.
The Saints are set to play the Seattle Seahawks on October 9 at 1 p.m. EST. New Orleans is currently listed as a 5.5 favorite.
