Andrew Lincoln took on a huge role when he signed up to be The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes back in 2010. In what was only an attempt to adapt the highly successful comic book series, AMC took on the burden of a whole fan base with some pretty big expectations. The show flourished through its first few seasons but in these last couple of seasons, ratings have been at a series low.
With that being said, some changes needed to be made. THR broke the news earlier today that Andrew Lincoln will be exiting the series in its 9th season:
We’re hearing that, by the end of Season 9 of AMC’s hit drama series The Walking Dead, Rick Grimes himself will be walking away. That’s right TWD enthusiasts, Andrew Lincoln will be growling his way through the post-apocalyptic setting for just one more season before calling it quits. And while we won’t be spoiling just how the series’ founding character makes his exit, we do know that fans can only expect to see Lincoln in half-a-dozen episodes of the upcoming season.
Listen this is not the first time that the Walking Dead has played with the idea of removing a main character. They did it with Hershel, they did it with Glen and now Rick Grimes can be added to that list. This one may hurt true Walking Dead fans just a little bit more. Check out some fan reactions below:
if andrew lincoln is really leaving after season nine, then the walking dead should end with season nine. you CAN’T do the walking dead without rick grimes.

So #TheWalkingDead killed off Carl, sent Morgan to its spin-off show, wouldn’t pay Lauren Cohan what she deserved, and now reportedly Andrew Lincoln (aka Rick) is leaving after next season. Has AMC royally screwed up or what?
