AMC and Fathom Events announced this week that the season 8 finale of The Walking Dead will screen in theaters on April 15th. The episode will play alongside the season 4 premiere of Fear the Walking Dead.
A spokesperson for AMC said:
“Sunday, April 15 marks an epic and highly-anticipated moment for these series, as worlds collide when Morgan crosses over from The Walking Dead and into the new world of Fear. We are thrilled to be working with our terrific partners at Fathom to provide fans from across the country the opportunity to experience this crossover moment in such a special way and among other members of one of television’s most passionate fan communities.”
The episodes will play at around 750 theaters across the US and will feature content exclusive to the screenings. The episodes will air live with the show and feature no commercial breaks according to Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt.
The Walking Dead has been struggling to retain the record-breaking viewership it once pulled in over the last couple seasons. So, this is likely an attempt to right the ship while giving the spinoff series Fear an opportunity to reach more people.
