Alycia Baumgardner may be getting ready for her next fight, but she made time to fly out to Dublin, Ireland recently. While there, she contributed to DAZN’s broadcast of Katie Taylor’s homecoming fight against Chantelle Cameron. When asked if she could see herself fighting either Taylor or Cameron in the future, the Ohio native was not shy about sharing her desire to fight the sport’s best talents.
“Absolutely, I’m here for a challenge,” she told Boxing Social.
“I’m here to make history in women’s boxing and I would love to fight either one of them.”
Big fights are certainly in Baumgardner’s future, but she already has her next match set for July 15 in Detroit, Michigan. The Freemont, Ohio product will share the ring with Christina Linardatou. The 35-year-old Dominican fighter holds the distinction of being the only person to hand Baumgardner a pro loss. In the rematch, Baumgardner aims to flip the script.
“It was a blessing to be able to fight overseas in front of an international audience to unify titles; and then to finally become undisputed in my home country at MSG, was so amazing!” Baumgardner said.
“But to come back home to the Midwest, where I grew up, where I learned how to work, where my life was shaped, where my faith was forged, and then to headline in my adopted home of Detroit for my first undisputed title defense; I am truly realizing a dream come true.”
