Alex Pereira will transition from middleweight to light heavyweight for his next UFC match. The former middleweight champion shared the news with his fans via YouTube earlier this week.
“My next fight will be at 205 [pounds],” Pereira said.
“I think I did my work at 185 [pounds] and now I’m feeling good to go up to 205. Like I told you, when I’m feeling good, I will go up. This will be something natural and now I think it is. I want to make one thing clear: The division 185, I always made weight. A lot of people had doubts, but I always fulfilled my obligation.”
Pereira currently holds a mixed martial arts record of 7-2 with six knockouts. He made his debut in the UFC on November 6, 2021 against Andreas Michailidis. The Brazilian fighter knocked out Michailidis before going on to beat Sean Strickland and Bruno Silva. On November 12, 2022, he won the UFC Middleweight Championship against Israel Adesanya by way of a fifth-round knockout. Most recently, Adesanya bounced back to knock out Pereira in the second round of a five-round match on April 8, 2023 in Miami, Florida. Following the dramatic finish, Pereira nor Adesanya expressed an interest in an immediate rematch.
