Edgar Berlanga will not be the only New York native fighting at Madison Square Garden on June 24, 2023. New York natives Reshat Mati and Adam Kownacki will compete as part of the undercard.
Super lightweight prospect Reshat Mati will fight Brooklyn’s Wesley Ferrer in a 10-round bout. Mati is riding high after picking up his 13th pro win against Eduardo Rodriguez in October in Mexico. Meanwhile, Brooklyn’s own Ferrer will look to improve his pro record to 18-1-1 with an upset victory in front of his hometown crowd.
“I can’t wait to be back in the ring after my latest layoff,” Mati said.
“I’m looking forward to going out there and winning in style and win over the entire crowd at MSG.”
Adam Kownacki will look to get back to his winning ways after suffering three consecutive losses at the hands of Robert Helenius and Ali Eren Demirezen. In order to do so, he must get by Joe Cusumano. Unlike Kownacki, Cusumano is hoping to get his third straight win after being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in 2021.
“I am excited to be back at Madison Square Garden,” Kownacki said.
“MSG is where I had my first success as a boxer winning the NY Golden Gloves, and my fifth pro fight where I came out victorious and started my run to become a top five Heavyweight. MSG is will once again be the starting point of something special for me, as I resurrect my career.”
