According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is a fan of what Robin Thede’s putting out. Two weeks ahead of the first season’s finale, the premium network has renewed A Black Lady Sketch Show for a second season.
The first comedy sketch show written by, directed by, and starring a group of black women, the series has been a hit with critics and fans alike. So much so in fact that the first season currently sits at a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
HBO’s Executive Vice-President of Programming, Amy Gravitt, released a statement regarding the show’s renewal on Tuesday:
“It’s been thrilling to see the audience embrace the characters that Robin, Ashley, Gabrielle, and Quinta have brought to life. We had a blast making this groundbreaking sketch show with Robin, [director] Dime [Davis] and all of the writers and producers, and I can’t wait to see what next season holds.”
HBO has been plunging headfirst into its life after Thrones. Along with the first season of A Black Lady Sketch Show, the network has put out envelope-pushing new shows such as Euphoria this summer. And they’re certainly hoping that the upcoming Watchmen adaptation fills the gap left by Game of Thrones.
A Black Lady Sketch Show has two more episodes left this season on Augst 30th and September 7th.
