Head Coach Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans have landed the commitment of 2023 power forward Xavier Booker. He is currently ranked as a composite four-star recruit, but that is because ESPN has not updated their rankings and has him unranked currently. Every other set of rankings has him as a five-star recruit and a top ten recruit at that. He committed to the Michigan State Spartans over Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Indiana Hoosiers, Gonzaga Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Cincinnati Bearcats, Auburn Tigers, and Purdue Boilermakers. He could finish as the highest-ranked recruit in the Tom Izzo era depending on where ESPN ranks him.
Xavier Booker commits to Michigan State. Ranked No. 1 by Rivals, No. 3 by 247sports in the class of 2023. One of the highest-rated recruits in Tom Izzo’s tenure. Massive get for Michigan State

Head Coach Tom Izzo is in the twilight of his Hall of Fame career and would like to win a few more things before he retires. Xavier Booker has serious “one and done” potential and it seems likely he will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft after a year with the Michigan State Spartans. Tom Izzo has gotten plenty of players to the NBA and knows how to maximize his players in college.

It has been a long time since the Big Ten won the NCAA Tournament and the last team to do so was the Tom Izzo-led Michigan State Spartans in the year 2000. The Hall of Fame Head Coach has been to the mountain top and wants to return. Landing players like Xavier Booker could help accomplish that goal, but if not it will be another player the program has put into the NBA under Izzo’s leadership.
