Head Coach Mike Hopkins and the Washington Huskies have landed the commitment of 2023 top 30 recruit and top three shooting guard Wesley Yates. He is the cousin of former Huskies player and NBA veteran Quincy Pondexter, who is also serving as an assistant coach currently at Washington. Yates committed to the Washington Huskies over the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Baylor Bears, Texas Longhorns, Stanford Cardinals, LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Houston Cougars, and Arkansas Razorbacks. He should be able to contribute to the program in his freshman year but isn’t necessarily a “one and done” prospect.

The Washington Huskies hope to continuously compete near the top of the PAC-12 and adding talent like Wesley Yates can help them do that. He is hoping to make the NBA in a few years and Washington does have some experience getting guys to the League. Yates is currently the only 2023 recruit that has committed to the Washington Huskies. He will likely be joined by other players later but could continue to be the headliner of the class for Washington.

Head Coach Mike Hopkins has established a solid program at Washington that develops talent fairly well. Wesley Yates hopes to get drafted at some point and with the right level of play could be a “one and done” prospect that gets drafted in the 2024 NBA Draft. Time will tell on that front, but for now, Washington lands much-needed talent for the 2023 class.
