From guest appearances on Abbott Elementary to launching his own show on Netflix, Vince Staples has made his presence felt in the world of television and film. However, this summer, he’ll be returning to the world of music as he plans to release his sixth studio album, Dark Times. The Long Beach native prepped fans for the album’s release by sharing a short video and message via Instagram.
“Eleven years ago, a young, uncertain version of myself was given an opportunity with Def Jam Recordings. I released my first project under their banner, Shyne Coldchain Vol 2, a year later. I was unsure of what to expect from the world of music but deeply aware of what I needed: a change in my surroundings and a clear understanding of self. Ten years and seven projects later, I’ve found that clarity. Now, I share with you my final Def Jam release, Dark Times,” he wrote.
The project’s release is led by “Shame On The Devil,” a laid-back track coated with introspective lyrics about the solitude of success and connecting with those success has separated him from.
“[The] mission [is] complete. [I’m] out of the mud. [I’ve been] labeled a leader. They following cuh. [I’m] light on my feet. [I’m] floating above,” he raps.
“I [haven’t] been creeping or keeping in touch. I know some h—s that will pull up to give me some p—y before they come give me a hug. [This] s—t is disgusting. But then, only the heavens can judge.”
Vince Staples’ sixth LP, Dark Times, will hit streaming services on Friday, May 24. Until then, “Shame On The Devil” is available below.
