Veronica Mars fans I hope you’re caught up, because season 4 just landed a week sooner than expected. Kristen Bell revealed the surprise drop to all the fans in attendance at the end of Veronica Mars‘ panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
Hulu and Warner Bros. recently gave fans a peek at what to expect with new promo images. Most fans assumed that was the most we’d get to see of the new season until its original release date of July 26th. But, that’s obviously not the case.
The latest season comes over a decade after the show first aired in 2004 and finds Bell’s titular heroine back in Neptune trying to hunt down a serial bomber terrorizing the beach town. Some big names signed on to join the show’s fourth season. Most notably, J.K. Simmons and Patton Oswalt.
Series creator Rob Thomas recently sat down with Variety to discuss the show’s future. “Kristen says she would do it until it’s ‘Murder, She Wrote,’ and my feeling is for us to survive in that way, more and more episodes have to be about the mystery — about Veronica as a detective — and less of the soap opera personal life.”
He continued, “I think of this as the bridge to whatever version of Veronica Mars comes next. There are personal life things that fans of the show want to see, and if we just stripped it, people might have felt let-down. This one is trying to steer them in the direction of the mystery becoming more of the lifeblood of the show.”
Bell jokingly spoke about the show’s future while at Comic-Con. “I’ll play Veronica until everyone in Neptune is dead,” Bell said.
Veronica Mars season 4 is available to stream now on Hulu.
