Carnage loves company apparently. According to Deadline, a new villain named Shriek has been added to the plot of Venom 2. The character will apparently be working alongside Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kasady/Carnage against Venom and Eddie Brock.
In the comics, Shriek and Carnage have a long history as villainous partners and lovers. The character was first introduced during the ‘Maximum Carnage’ event in 1993 as Frances Barrison. Due to extreme trauma, Barrison’s dormant mutant powers activate and she becomes the villainous Shriek. Her powers include sonic energy blasts, flight, and the ability to bring out violent emotions in others. No word yet on who will play the character though sources tell Deadline that the production is “looking mostly at unknowns right now.”
Despite a rough critical reception, audiences loved the wacky, weird tone of Venom when it landed last year. So much so that, until Joker, the film held the record for the highest-ever October opening at the box office. It continued that success throughout the month and finished with a whopping $856 million worldwide. A sequel was immediately rumored but not made official until earlier this year. Andy Serkis is directing with Tom Hardy returning to star alongside Harrelson.
Venom 2 hits theaters on October 2nd, 2020.
