Venom was shockingly successful in the box-office, internationally. Now, Sony looks to expand on its own Spider-Man universe with a sequel to Tom Hardy’s alien symbiotes. With the film grossing over $850 million globally, this was really a ‘no-brainer’ for Sony and Marvel.
Kelly Marcel, who wrote the original film, will pen the sequel which will retain star Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams as well as Woody Harrelson. According to THR:
Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal are producing the sequel. Ruben Fleischer directed the first installment and is working on a Zombieland follow-up. He told THR at last year’s Venom premiere that he expected to be involved in a sequel should one occur.
This is all apart of Sony & Marvel’s collaborative ‘Spider-Man’ universe which will include Jared Leto’s ‘Morbius’ and the superheroine film ‘Black Sable’.
Initially, when I went to watch Venom I was hesitant, but it was a surprisingly good superhero movie. Tom Hardy played the role as if he was living with an Alien Symbiote his entire life and Riz Ahmed’s villainous portrayal is phenomenal. If those two actors are tied to the next film, you can count me in.
