At UFC 196, Nate Diaz came, he saw and conquered Conor McGregor during his ‘upset’ win over the Featherweight Champion. The matchup got intense once Diaz was officially announced as McGregor’s opponent and both ripped each other apart at any possible moment. The fight was put together on just 11 days notice after McGregor’s original opponent, Rafael dos Anjos, withdrew due to a foot injury. The event surpassed one million pay-per-view buys and was the third-highest gate in the organization’s history, so obviously the matchup was a money maker.
Diaz won courtesy of a second round rear naked choke and he won pretty handily over McGregor who fought in the Welterweight division, two weight classes above his own. The Irishmen was fighting at 170 pounds, 25 pounds over his usual fighting weight but it was a fight that McGregor was willing to take on.
Despite Diaz handling McGregor and both fighters having opponents lining up for a shot at them, it appears that the UFC is ready for a rematch at what could be their biggest card ever, UFC 200.
