Tyla’s self-titled debut LP will not be nominated for Best R&B Album at the 67th GRAMMY Awards, but it could win the Best Pop Vocal Album.
On Monday, October 21, 2024 The Hollywood Reporter‘s Mesfin Fekadu revealed the Recording Academy’s R&B screening committee had “kicked” the project to the Best Pop Vocal Album category. The screening committee is comprise of producers, songwriters and other professionals deemed knowledgeable about the genre.
Tyla has made its way into a variety of categories across different award shows. At the MTV Video Music Awards, she won Best Afrobeats Video for “Water” and Tyla is nominated for Best Pop Album at the South African Music Awards. Not to mention, she was nominated for Best New Artist at the Soul Train Music Awards and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist at the BET Awards.
In the event Tyla’s album makes its way into the final set of nominees for Best Pop Vocal Album, it will face stiff composition from Chappell Roan, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. The final slate of GRAMMY nominations for the Best Pop Vocal Album category and all other awards will be revealed on November 8, 2024. The winners will be celebrated at the 67th GRAMMY Awards on February 2, 2025.
