Trina will reportedly receive the “I Am Hip-Hop” award at the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards on October 4, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia. The Florida native is being honored for the “cultural trends” she has set and her passion for “giving back to her community.”
“Trina is a multi-talented hip hop artist who has set cultural trends and continues to be passionate about giving back to her community,” Connie Orlando of BET said, per VIBE.
“She has paved the way for several artists, and we look forward to honoring her impact and legacy on hip hop’s biggest stage, BET Hip Hop Awards 2022.”
Trina joins an elite list of trendsetters. Lil’ Wayne, Ice Cube and MC Lyte are just a few of the iconic figures who have won the award in past years.
“I am honored to receive and accept the 2022 I Am Hip Hop Award presented by BET,” Trina said.
“As a legend with over 20 years in the music industry, consistency and unity have contributed to my Rockstar power as a femcee. I believe when one woman wins, whether it’s in front of the camera or behind the scenes, we all WIN. Let’s keep winning!”
Hosted by Fat Joe, the 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards will also feature a number of other high-profile stars. Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West will battle for the “Best Hip-Hop Artist of the Year” award while I Never Liked You and Certified Lover Boy compete for “Album of the Year” honors.
