It appears that Tony Harrison will share the ring with undefeated super welterweight contender Tim Tszyu on January 28, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tszyu was originally scheduled to fight undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo on January 28, 2023, but the Texas native suffered a hand injury during training camp. After learning of Charlo’s injury, Tszyu’s representatives indicated that they would not wait for Charlo to recover before preparing for their next fight.
“You all know Tim can’t sit around waiting, so we are exploring all options for a fight ASAP. Tim is disappointed but focused still on what comes next,” Tszyu’s manager, Glen Jennings, said.
“He’s a fighter, he wants to fight, so waiting for Charlo recovery is not an option. Until then, training continues in USA.”
Tszyu’s new opponent, Tony Harrison, spent the second half of 2022 training Alycia Baumgardner for a showdown with Mikaela Mayer. Prior to entering Baumgardner’s corner, he beat Sergio Garcia by unanimous decision to win the WBC “Silver” Super Welterweight Championship. With a record of 29-3-1, he is also the only person to beat Jermell Charlo in a pro bout.
As for Tszyu, he is 21-0 with 15 knockouts. He was largely inactive in 2022 with one unanimous decision victory against Terrell Gausha in March.
