Butler was a huge part of the New England Patriots defensive scheme. He first came into the spotlight by making the game-securing interception in Super Bowl XLIX against the Seattle Seahawks. Butler then went on to dominate at his position and earned a spot in the Pro Bowl during the 2015/2016 season.
Many people still wonder why Butler was sat by head coach Bill Belichick during this year’s Super Bowl. Butler was suited up and ready to go, but he stood on the sideline for the entirety of the game.
The Tennessee Titans had a better year this year than in previous years. They finished 9-7 and were able to sneak into the NFL Wild Card round. They got a win in the wild card against the Kansas City Chiefs but then ran into a buzzsaw against the New England Patriots.
Butler is without a doubt an upgrade for the Titans secondary. Butler is a young player with a lot of football left in him. The Titans have been one of the bottom tier teams in pass defense and desperately needed to bring in someone who could help. Butler definitely can help, but that is a lot of money for a cornerback.
