The great Tinker Hatfield is set to add his own twist to the classic Nike Air Max 90 to contribute along with HTM counterparts for Air Max Day. We have seen the Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Nike Air Max LD-Zero H and now we have Tinker Hatfield’s Nike Air Max 90 Ultra SuperFly. We have already received word that Mark Parker would be contributing his own as well which was the Nike Air Max MP Ultra. For Tinker’s sneaker though, he reworked the Air Max 90 by incorporating the Mercurial Superfly Sock lining/bootie which is extended up to about the lower part of your shin.
Looking to release on Air Max Day as of right now, there in fact isn’t a confirmed date but with Hiroshi’s sneaker being unveiled already you can expect official unveilings for Tinker’s and Mark’s to follow soon. Thanks to zzazin, we have detailed pictures of the Nike Air Max 90 Ultra SuperFly which should help you guys determine if these will be a DEF Cop or DEF Not.

Legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield is the architect of the most iconic Air silhouettes, including Air Max 1, Air Max 90 and Air Jordan 3 through 9, among countless others. Today he runs Nike’s Innovation Kitchen and collaborates with Hiroshi Fujiwara and Mark Parker, bringing some of Nike’s most forward-thinking designs to life through H-T-M.
With a background in architecture, Hatfield has an eye for combining inspiration from seemingly discordant places to create sneakers that look and feel of the future. In this case, he mixed the world’s most popular Air Max with Nike’s fastest football boot. Then he cored out the midsole with Ultra technology, making the whole proposition incredibly light and modern. Tinker brings the original Air Max 90 into the modern era with a sock-like Flyknit upper for lightweight comfort. Top it off with classic palette, and you’ve got an icon in the making.
On breaking new ground, Tinker explains his thinking: “I struggle just being a colorist or an arbiter of style. So if I’m asked to redo an Air Max, I’m going to change it. I’m going to give it some additional technology,” he says. “I’ve always liked wearing the Mercurial Superfly. I like how the collar feels. By adding that collar to the Air Max 90, we are changing its performance, which has always been an interest of mine as a designer.”
