Charles, recently, played with the Washington Mystics and led the league in points per game (23.4) and finished fifth in the Most Valuable Player award, which she already won in 2012.
“Tina is an elite talent in our league and adding a player of her caliber is another example of our commitment to our fans and players to pursue a championship every year. Tina has made it clear that she wants to win and wants to do so in Phoenix” said the Mercury General Manager Jim Pitman on a statement.
In the offseason, and with the start of free agency, the Mercury focused on revamping the roster that lost the 2021 WNBA Finals against the Chicago Sky. The team brought back Sophie Cunnigham to stay at the top of the league in three-point shooting and traded for Diamond DeShields for her scoring and defending attributes.
The Mercury has its eyes set for a fourth WNBA championship for the city of Phoenix.
