Minnesota Timberwolves Head Coach, President of Basketball Operations and Part-Owner Flip Saunders recently revealed he was battling cancer. Flip was fighting but he decided to hand over the role of head coach to Sam Mitchell on an interim basis until Flip returned.
As of late, Flip’s condition was getting worse and now, as a shock to many, the Minnesota Timberwolves announced that Flip has passed away at the age of 60.

It is with extreme sadness that the Minnesota Timberwolves today learned that Phil “Flip” Saunders, who served as the team’s President of Basketball Operations and Head Coach, in addition to being a minority owner of the team, passed away today at age 60.

As expected, the Timberwolves cancelled practice today. No further information has been released at this time.
