Approximately six weeks ago, undefeated super welterweight contender Tim Tszyu was scheduled to challenge Jermell Charlo for the undisputed super welterweight crown. Unfortunately, the bout was postponed indefinitely after Charlo suffered an injury to his hand. With his indefinite absence delaying the bout, Tszyu and his team remained adamant that he would take an interim fight. However, few expected the Australian fighter to challenge the only man to beat Charlo as a pro, Tony Harrison.
Despite Harrison’s lack of in-ring activity over the last few years and his age, Tszyu is only a -280 favorite. In fact, several members of the media and fans believe Harrison will pull of an upset when he travels to fight Tszyu on Saturday. With that said, Tszyu is confident that his training will prepare him for the tough test that lies ahead.
“Everything has been on point. I went and researched a little bit about Cristiano Ronaldo. I know he’s not a boxer but the way he approaches life is the way I am approaching life right now – as a true, 100 percent athlete dedicated to his craft. Everything. Just the way I eat, when I eat, just true professionalism,” Tszyu said, per Boxing Scene.
“I know when I was growing up my dad was an army sergeant with the way he approached life and I’m times two to how he was. The funny thing is that as the rounds go up and up and up, I feel like I don’t get tired. My breathing’s on point and everything’s just running smoothly. Right now, I feel like I could run over anyone and it’s a good position and feeling to have, especially leading up to such a big fight.”
Both fighters will meet in Sydney. Australia for the WBO Super Welterweight Championship on March 11, 2023.
