The Weeknd has already performed at the Super Bowl, but he may not be satisfied with just being a performer. During a recent episode of 32 Thoughts, Canadian sportscasters Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek hinted that The Weeknd and actor Ryan Reynolds may be a part of a group that will attempt to purchase the Ottawa Senators.
“I don’t think we’ve heard the end of this when it comes to star power. I don’t think Reynolds is the only one,” Friedman said.
“But, you know, the one thing about him, he’s from Scarborough. He has some representation that has tie-ins to Ottawa. At least two of his representatives — well, they were born overseas and moved to Canada and have connections to Ottawa. So, you know, we’ll see, Jeff. I don’t know if it’s true. I don’t know that it isn’t. But that rumor is out there. I’ve heard there’s the potential to be more. Ron made the joke and a couple of people started texting me — like, are you hinting that The Weeknd could buy into the Ottawa Senators? I don’t know that that’s going to happen.”
At the moment, it appears that Reynolds would be a more likely candidate to purchase a stake in the team. He has publicly expressed an interest in purchasing a portion of the franchise and appeared at games throughout the season. With that said, The Weeknd has expanded into film, television and fashion over the years. Who is to say that sports may not be his sports ownership may not be in his future?
