So, it’s official, The Walking Dead won Friday at this year’s Comic-Con. Marvel’s set to take Saturday and the entire weekend but, TWD Universe is surely giving its all to take the spotlight. Things started off with the panel for the spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead, where that show received a sixth season renewal on stage.
Then, just an hour later big brother showed up when The Walking Dead released all the juicy details on its upcoming tenth season. On top of that, a new series was announced with the full cast already set. But that wasn’t all that AMC had planned for their undead ratings juggernaut.
The Walking Dead Universe’s double-header panel ended with a quick teaser updating fans on those Rick Grimes movies we were promised after Andrew Lincoln left the main show last season. And while I’m sure some fans who were hoping for an actual trailer will be disappointed, overall TWD fans have to be over the moon with what we got.
It’s a short teaser but it’s a confirmation that the movies are indeed happening, something many fans were skeptical of when they were announced. The teaser shows a helicopter, the same one that picked up Rick during the season 9 midseason finale, flying towards a major downtown area. I can’t tell which city it is and they didn’t explicitly say at the panel but I’m sure Reddit’s already figured it out. Most importantly though, the teaser ends with the phrase “Rick Grimes Returns, Only in Theaters.”
Sadly, no release date is revealed but, a Universal Pictures logo is shown on screen alongside AMC and Skybound, publisher of The Walking Dead comics. So, we’re not only getting a Rick Grimes movie but, we’re getting it on the big screen. I’ve fallen off the wagon with this show recently but, count me IN for this.
