The Walking Dead may’ve won Comic-Con already y’all. They for sure won Friday. Things got kicked off with Fear the Walking Dead receiving a sixth season renewal as well as a completely new series announcement. THEN, Scott Gimple and co. really tore the house down with The Walking Dead‘s official panel.
Heading into its tenth season, a new trailer was shown off for the upcoming season. Our heroes are on the verge of war with The Whisperers and Danai Gurira’s Michonne is worried about keeping the tentative peace between the other settlements. This being The Walking Dead, though, we know there’s no such thing as peace in the zombie apocalypse. Things go from bad, to worse, to absolute worst as tensions bubble over and the group goes to war.
Check out the trailer for yourself:
Also announced during the panel was the show’s tenth season premiere date, October 6th. That’s no surprise considering TWD usually comes back around the first of October, right as spooky season kicks off. Also unsurprising, but very sad, Danai Gurira confirmed that this would be her last season on the show. In recent years the show has been hemorrhaging OG characters left and right, as seasons 8 and 9 saw the departure of Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) and his on-screen son Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes), as well as Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene). Now, with Gurira stepping away, only Norman Reedus (Darryl Dixon) and Melissa McBride (Carol Peletier) remain from the first three seasons. (And judging from that trailer, Carol’s luck seems like it might run out this season.)
AMC is off-setting what will likely be a costly war by adding two new cast members. Unfortunately for our heroes, both seem like they won’t necessarily be ‘good guys.’ Thora Birch will play a character named Gamma, right-hand woman to Alpha, this season’s big bad. Kevin Caroll will also join the cast, playing a man “desperately trying to get home to his family,” according to TWD executive producer Gale Ann Hurd.
The Walking Dead season 10 premieres Sunday, October 6th on AMC.
