Fans of The Late Show will have to find other shows to watch this week. The show’s host, Stephen Colbert, suffered a ruptured appendix and The Late Show will take an unplanned, one-week hiatus as he heals.
“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” he wrote on Threads.
“I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix. I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”
The Late Show has worked past a few unplanned hiatuses in recent months. The show took an unprecedented pause during the Writers’ Guild of America (WGA) strike this past summer. More recently, the show took a brief pause as Colbert recovered from a bout with COVID-19.
Fans may not be able to see Colbert chop it up with the likes of Jon Batiste, Barbra Streisand and Jennifer Garner this week, but the show is expected to return in early December instead.
